Meet Farmer Andrew Lorek with Farmage
We recently took a drive out to Castle Hayne to visit good friend and farmer, Andrew Lorek. It's not even the prime part of the season, and Andrew already has a beautiful variety of produce growing.
What was historically family land that was used for mono-cropping, is now acreage that Andrew has reworked and founded Farmage upon. Although a fourth-generation farmer, it wasn't until later in life, after a lifetime of BMX biking and love for punk rock, that set him up on his path to becoming a "market farmer" growing various produce to sell at the farmer's market, to restaurants, and to the local community. If you've seen Andrew at the Wilmington Farmers Market, you've most likely gasped at his heirloom tomatoes. Large in size and even juicier on your plate, it's evident that nothing but hard work and love goes into growing his produce.
We are proud to be working with Andrew and always in awe of the beautiful produce he grows with our compost.
Be sure to give him a visit at the Wilmington Farmers Market on Saturdays and pro tip: arrive early because he usually sells out of his heirlooms fast! Thank you so much for being part of our community, Andrew!
